About The Sixth Edition
An ear for the room.
A book of standards.
The Sixth Edition is a Bay Area jazz ensemble devoted to the Great American Songbook: the swing tunes, the ballads, the bossa novas, and the vocal standards that have held audiences for the better part of a century. We play them with love for the melody and an ear on the moment.
Voice at the front, horns in the middle, a rhythm section holding it all together. We read a room the way we read a chart, knowing when to lean into the swing, when to draw it down to a whisper, and when to leave a little silence for the room to breathe. The program bends to the evening, never the other way around.
From cocktail hours and weddings to listening rooms and club dates, the ensemble scales to fit the occasion: an intimate quartet for a quiet evening, a full sextet when the night asks for more. Always live, and always in the tradition.

If you've heard the ensemble play, whether in a hall, a club, or a private room, we'd love to hear what stayed with you. A few honest lines is plenty.
