The Sixth Edition is a Bay Area jazz ensemble performing the Great American Songbook: swing, ballads, bossa nova, and vocal jazz. A four-to-six-piece group for weddings, private events, and listening rooms.
The Sixth Edition is a jazz ensemble based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The band draws on the Great American Songbook: the swing tunes, ballads, bossa novas, and vocal standards that have anchored the music for generations. It plays them live, listening to the room as closely as it listens to the chart.
The ensemble is built around voice, horns, and a rhythm section, scaling from an intimate quartet to a full sextet as the occasion requires. Dynamics are everything: the band can recede to set a mood for a cocktail hour, then step forward and swing for a dance floor or a listening set.
The repertoire spans the tradition, from Gershwin, Porter, and Ellington through the bossa nova and vocal-jazz canon, with plenty of room for the players to stretch out and improvise. In performance, the program is shaped to the evening: tempo, volume, and song choice all bend to the room and the moment.
The Sixth Edition is available for weddings, private events, corporate functions, and venue dates across the Bay Area. The band arrives early, dresses for the occasion, and is a pleasure to work with from first inquiry to final number. Booking inquiries are warmly welcomed.
Flexible configuration from quartet to sextet: rhythm section anchored center, horns and vocalist at the front. Footprint and power requirements supplied ahead of the date.
